The Insight Trust
The Insight Trust grew out of many years of community work – and many years of frustration with lack of progress in communities.
Dr Elizabeth Clements’ study of her own community work in a local authority housing setting led to development of an ‘organic’ approach to social change.
The ‘practice’ of this approach is developed every day by working alongside communities who have visions for becoming more creative, constructive and sustainable.
Elizabeth is Insight’s educator and manager. She became interested in social change processes while observing riots in London in the 1970s.
On returning to New Zealand she
- became involved in anti racism education and action,
- worked with solo mothers using the theories and tools of Brazilian educator, Paulo Freire,
- ran an international aid and development agency,
- ran a ten year campaign to introduce third sector housing to Aotearoa/New Zealand,
- worked with local authority tenants and their landlord to shift the balance of power,
- completed a Ph.D. on approaches to social change.
Elizabeth now supports those looking for creative and constructive solutions to endemic issues in our poorest communities. |
